FAQ

Solar mounting, answered.

SPAX Engineering Pte Ltd · Singapore solar & steel mounting subcontractor

Is SPAX a solar panel supplier or a mounting subcontractor?

SPAX is a subcontractor. We install the mounting structure that holds solar PV modules in place, on rooftops, as ground-mount racking, and as carport canopies. We do not supply the panels or inverters and we do not hold the EPC contract. Our scope is the structure between the roof (or ground) and the module.

What does SPAX build?

Four things: rooftop BAPV mounting on metal-deck and concrete roofs, pile-driven ground-mount racking, solar carport and canopy structural steel, and general light-industrial steelwork. All EPC-led and SPAX-installed.

Where is SPAX based and which markets does it serve?

SPAX Engineering Pte Ltd is headquartered in Singapore at 39 Woodland Close, #08-82 MEGA @ WOODLANDS, Singapore 737856. SPAX operates in Singapore and is expanding into India (Tamil Nadu) and Malaysia (Selangor).

What certifications does SPAX hold?

BCA ME03 Solar PV System Integration, Grade L4, and bizSAFE 3. Company registration UEN 202217300M. SPAX was founded in 2022 by Felix Low and Sakthi.

What is the difference between solar mounting and solar racking?

Mounting is the general term for any structure that fixes solar panels to a surface. Racking usually refers to the rail-and-frame systems used on rooftops and ground-mount arrays. SPAX installs both.

What is BAPV and how is it different from BIPV?

BAPV (building-applied PV) mounts panels onto an existing roof or structure. BIPV (building-integrated PV) replaces a building element, such as a facade or roof, with the PV itself. SPAX's rooftop work is primarily BAPV mounting.

How does SPAX work with EPCs?

EPC-led, SPAX-installed. Our scope begins when the EPC's signed-off shop drawings arrive and ends when the structure is handed back ready for modules and grid commissioning. The sequence is Mobilise, Layout, Install, Hand-back. SPAX uses its own crews, not agency labour.

How are rooftop solar structures fixed without leaks?

It depends on the roof. Metal-deck roofs use clamps on standing seams or brackets on trapezoidal profiles; concrete roofs use ballasted, non-penetrating systems or anchored feet with proper flashing. The waterproofing detail is designed to the specific roof type.

What loads does a solar mounting structure need to resist?

Dead load (the panels and structure), live and maintenance load, and wind uplift, which is the governing case in Singapore. Structures are built to the EPC's structural design and Singapore wind ratings.

Aluminium or steel, which does SPAX use?

Both, chosen for the application. Aluminium rail is used for rooftop mounting where light weight and corrosion resistance matter; hot-dip galvanised steel is used for ground-mount and carport structures where strength and span matter.

How much solar mounting has SPAX installed?

Over 80 MWp of mounting structure across HDB SolarNova, commercial and industrial, MOE school, and hospital rooftops since 2022.

What projects has SPAX delivered?

HDB SolarNova 6 and 8, commercial and industrial sites including Boustead at Tuas, MOE schools including Geylang Methodist, Sembawang Primary and Monfort Secondary, and hospital rooftops including KK Women's and Children's, Sengkang General and Changi General.

How long does it take to build a solar carport?

It depends on size, foundation type and site access. A solar carport is a structural steel building, not a shade cloth: it involves foundations or footings, column erection, roof framing and waterproofing prep. SPAX scopes the programme against the EPC's design and site conditions.

How does SPAX protect projects from payment or invoice fraud?

SPAX verifies any change of bank details by phone to a known number before acting, never on an emailed request alone. Our only genuine domain is spax.sg and our email addresses end in @spax.sg. Look-alike domains are not us.

How do EPCs shortlist a solar mounting subcontractor?

By checking licence grade (the BCA workhead), safety certification (bizSAFE), track record (installed MWp), crew model (own crews versus agency labour), and on-time delivery. SPAX is built to pass that vetting.
